Dani Olmo wanted at Man City: Pep Guardiola 'dreams' of landing Barcelona star and puts Spain ace at top of summer shopping list

According to Relevo, City are in search of a versatile No.10 who can link midfield and attack, open up defences with incisive passing, and contribute with goals. It is believed that Olmo has emerged as Guardiola’s top target for this role.

Olmo’s journey back to Barcelona last summer was the fulfilment of a personal dream. Having come through the club’s La Masia academy before making a name for himself abroad, his return in 2024 marked a poignant homecoming. Now, the question becomes whether he is willing to walk away from that dream so soon, especially after such a committed and emotional return to Catalonia.

From Barcelona’s perspective, Olmo is not currently listed as available for transfer. His technical skill, vision, and ability to operate in tight spaces make him a valuable asset, particularly in a team undergoing transition under Hansi Flick. However, the landscape could change if City come forward with a lucrative bid.

The Catalan giants are in a fragile financial position, and a significant offer, especially from a club with resources like City, could force them to reconsider. Still, any deal would hinge on the player’s own ambitions and Barcelona’s willingness to part with a key figure in their squad rebuild.

City have also shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as an alternative, though reports suggest Bayern Munich are ahead in that race. That could further elevate Olmo’s standing on City’s shortlist.
