  • Al-Nassr eager to sign Ederson
  • Waiting for green light from the 'keeper
  • Will negotiate a price with Man City
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Cesar Luis Merlo, the Saudi Pro League club has tabled a two-year contract worth a staggering €60 million (£51m/$65m) for the Brazilian international. Should Ederson decide to accept the offer, Al-Nassr plans to negotiate with Manchester City to facilitate his departure from the Premier League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Al-Nassr are keen to replace their current goalkeeper, David Ospina, as the Colombian is nearing the end of his contract, and see Ederson as the ideal candidate. While Stefan Ortega has performed admirably as Ederson's deputy, Pep Guardiola is unlikely to be pleased with the prospect of losing his first-choice goalkeeper. Ederson has been a pivotal figure at Manchester City since joining from Benfica in 2017.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It was earlier reported that City are not willing to part with him for anything less than €40 million (£34m/$43m). However, replacing a goalkeeper of Ederson's calibre would be a challenging task and the transfer funds will likely be recycled to sign a quality replacement at Etihad if Al-Nassr can push a deal over the line.

    WHAT NEXT?

If their pursuit of Ederson is unsuccessful, Al-Nassr have a contingency plan. The club will reportedly turn its attention to Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez as an alternative option. Now, it remains to be seen if the lucrative offer from Al-Nassr is enough to convince Ederson to set sail for the Middle East or if he chooses to stay at City and honour his contract, which runs until 2026.
