  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Carney Chukwuemeka inspired Borussia Dortmund to a come-from-behind victory in what was a stunning cameo off the bench against Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend. According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Get German Football News), Chukwuemeka needed just 10 minutes to convince Dortmund to open talks with Chelsea over a permanent transfer this summer. The 21-year-old arrived at the Signal Iduna Park on loan from Chelsea on deadline day of the winter transfer window.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chukwuemeka came off the bench against Gladbach on Sunday to replace the injured Maximilian Beier in the 35th minute. While he didn’t register a goal or assist himself, the Englishman made a significant impact, playing a key role in three of Dortmund's goals scored between the 41st minute and halftime. This happened after Japanese centre-back Ko Itakura opened the scoring for Gladbach in the 24th minute.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Although Chukwuemeka is not an established player yet, reports from both Germany and England indicate that the player won't be signed for cheap, should Dortmund move ahead with a permanent deal. According to The Athletic, Chukwuemeka has a €50 million (£43m) release clause in his contract. On the contrary, German publication Kicker mentioned that the Chelsea man could be available for €35 million (£30m).
