Gittens had impressed Blues scouts during a breakout year in Germany which saw the 20-year-old contribute 12 goals and three assists in 48 appearances in all competitions. However, his Dortmund contract still has another three years left to run and the German side clearly don't feel the need to be pressured into accepting an offer below their valuation.
DID YOU KNOW?
While they'll be disappointed by this transfer failure, Chelsea have still wrapped up deals for both Liam Delap and Mamadou Sarr from Ipswich and Strasbourg respectively. Both new signings are available to play in the Club World Cup, with Enzo Maresca's side beginning their campaign against LAFC next Monday.
