  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Argentine manager grabbed the headlines after he insisted that the team is not playing according to his style as he does not have his preferred set of players at Cobham who could implement his philosophy on the pitch. His comments came at a surprising juncture in the campaign as Chelsea had just beaten Brighton 2-1 to register their fourth successive win in the Premier League to climb to the sixth spot in the standings.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pochettino has now made a U-turn on his earlier statements and claimed that his words were misinterpreted. However, he did not blame the media and instead pointed fingers at himself for being unable to express himself clearly.

  • WHAT POCHETTINO SAID

Speaking to reporters, Pochettino said: "Maybe I need to blame myself. When I speak with my wife, sometimes she is a little bit lost, also. For me, I am so respectful. The most important thing is the club and the badge. I am not the type of person to say it is my team. What does that mean?

"With time, because football is very emotional, maybe we repeat too much but it is the context of emotion. How we feel, how we are, is how we translate in what we want to play."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It has been reported that the Chelsea board wants Pochettino to continue at Stamford Bridge. However, the coach has put forward a crucial condition that will allow him more control over transfers. On being asked what needs to be done in the summer, the manager brushed aside the question and replied: "You need to ask the sporting directors, the owners. Football is a dynamic thing - things can change."

    WHAT NEXT FOR POCHETTINO?

Pochettino would love to finish the season on a triumphant note against Bournemouth on Sunday. They can even qualify for the Europa League if Tottenham fall to Sheffield United on the final matchday and the Blues do their job at Stamford Bridge against the Cherries.
