Ben Foster predicts how many Wrexham transfers Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney will fund in order for Red Dragons to enjoy ‘back-to-back-to-back’ promotions

The Red Dragons have worked hard on assembling a squad that is ready to take rapid steps up the EFL ladder. They have climbed out of the National League and into League One, with proven performers such as Paul Mullin, Elliot Lee and James McClean aiding that cause.

More movement is expected in the next recruitment window, as Hollywood co-owners pump further funds into the club, and ex-Red Dragons goalkeeper Foster has told his Fozcast podcast of what could play out in North Wales: “I think they’re going to invest again in another four or five, maybe half a dozen players - good players, solid people, solid professionals that are going to raise the standard just a little bit more. But I think that what they’ve got in that team anyway is League One level. If you can add a little bit more quality, a bit more experience, I think they’re going to be there or thereabouts next season. And to go back-to-back-to-back, I don’t know if it’s been done before, but it’d be phenomenal.”

Foster sees no reason why Wrexham should not be aiming that high, with the former England international rubbishing suggestions that mid-table mediocrity would be welcomed in 2024-25. He added: “No, they won’t be thinking that. I guarantee you the owners and the manager and all the coaching staff and most of the players will not be thinking about solidifying. They won’t be thinking about consolidating in that league for a year or two. They will be thinking we want to be knocking on the doors of the play-offs. A charge for the play-offs was the aim this year, make sure you’re in the top six in the ending stages of the season and they found themselves in the top three. And comfortably in the top three. It’s been an incredible season, a fantastic achievement and I hope they can do it again.”

Phil Parkinson is in the process of piecing together transfer plans for the summer, with there a desire on his part to bring in additions that raise the collective standard. If the right pieces of a puzzle are put together, then more drama will be delivered for the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series as a third promotion party in Las Vegas becomes a distinct possibility.
