'His attitude changed' - Barcelona attacker’s wife confirms split just one year into marriage after 'very harsh words and attitudes'

Vitor Roque married Dayana Lins in December 2023, shortly before joining Barcelona from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense. However, the 20-year-old says she now wants a divorce as ever since they moved from Brazil to Spain, his "attitude" has changed.

She said on Instagram, via Marca: "I intend to separate, we have already started negotiations, unfortunately, the marriage did not work out... When we arrived in Europe, his attitude began to change... I think it was because of the pressure of football, and that I was supposed to be his safe haven, but he took out his stress with very harsh words and attitudes that I am not prepared to talk about. I want to see if I can share some things here. As most of you know, I got married last year. I'm still married, and like all girls (at least I think so), there's this idea that after you get married, you have company, empathy, love, children, you build a family," Dayana explained in a video in which she wanted to share her pain with her more than 420,000 followers on Instagram.

"So when you get married, whether you like it or not, you think you've chosen the right partner. And believing that, I left everything behind... my parents' house, my university, my job. I moved to another country to follow his life. Every change comes with discomfort, right? But anyway, like I said, I made this video to share my experience so that others don't find themselves in situations where there is a lack of empathy from the people around you. And obviously, so that you don't get hurt.

"For example, asking if you can get what's inside the fridge, inside your own house... not feeling helpless for not being able to go out to buy food, saying it's for the dogs. And feeling that asking them to buy food is like asking strangers for it. In short, there is one thing I want to say: if you had a full life before that one relationship, don't leave it all behind. Of course, trust in love, trust in God. But if you want to protect your achievements, get into a relationship where the person is willing to give up certain things for you just as you would for them. Because when the other person doesn't have that love, that affection, that willingness to give up something for you... they can throw you out the first chance they get. They will."

Roque has struggled to make an impression at Barca since signing from Athletico Paranaense in January 2023. As a result, he went on a season-long loan to Real Betis last summer - with the 19-year-old scoring more goals and getting more game time than he had previously at the Blaugrana. With Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha leading Barca's attack, Vitor Roque faces a real struggle to get into the starting XI at Barcelona if he does return.

Vitor Roque, whose contract with Barca runs until 2031, will spend the rest of the season at Betis - who have an option to make the move permanent this summer. He may therefore have played his last game for the Blaugrana.
