Andre Onana's replacements? Man Utd eye Barcelona outcast Marc-Andre ter Stegen & Lille's Lucas Chevalier in bid for upgrade on maligned goalkeeper

United have been linked with two of Europe's best goalkeepers as they search for an upgrade on Onana, who has made several blunders since his arrival from Inter in 2023. Le Parisien claim the Red Devils are monitoring Lille stopper Chevalier, who is also of interest to European champions Paris Saint-Germain given the uncertainty around Gianluigi Donnarumma's future, while TEAMtalk report Old Trafford could be a destination for Ter Stegen, who is being forced out by Barcelona.

Onana made three errors leading to goals during the past Premier League season and an upgrade would certainly help Ruben Amorim as he looks to improve on their recent finish of 15th. Ter Stegen is expected to leave Camp Nou after Barcelona prioritised signing Joan Garcia from Espanyol and renewing Wojciech Szczesny's contract, but Chevalier's situation is a little more complicated. The 23-year-old is valued at €70 million (£59m) by Lille and still has another two years left to run on his contract, with the French side still optimistic of agreeing a new deal.

Chevalier is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in Ligue 1, though he is yet to make his senior debut for France. He kept 11 league clean sheets in 2024-25, helping Lille finish fifth.

United are already having a busy summer as they look to reshape their squad for next season. The likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho and Antony have all been linked with permanent exits, while Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres are thought to be among their targets for incoming transfers.
