  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Club Brugge's chief executive claims the Belgian club sat with Milan out of courtesy but could not reach an agreement over the transfer of Jashari. According to Tutto Mercato, Milan have declined to increase their bid for Jashari and will instead focus on and re-open talks with their previous targets, Bayer's Xhaka and Valencia's Guerra.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Milan believe their €35 million (£30m/$41m) plus additional bonuses offer was a financially adequate proposal and will not spend more on the Swiss midfielder. Instead, the club are going back to target old prospects. The Italian club were in talks with Bayer after Xhaka greenlit a move to San Siro but couldn't reach an agreement with the German club. The Serie A club faced a similar fate in their pursuit of Guerra.

  • TELL ME MORE

Milan have already signed Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci, and were very close to signing Xhaka as well. But with Erik ten Hag's appointment at Bayer, the situation has turned a bit complicated as the Dutch manager also has plans of rebuilding his side with Xhaka being a top priority in the midfield.

Meanwhile, Guerra is tied to Valencia until 2027. Milan had previously offered €16 million (£13m/$18m) for the midfielder which was swiftly rejected by the Spanish side. However, with Guerra's contract extension coming to a halt due to wage issues, Milan can propose an increased bid for the Spaniard.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MILAN?

The club will try to make a few more signings before heading to Singapore for their pre-season friendlies, in which they face Arsenal on July 23 in their opening fixture.
