Chiefs vs Giants Predictions, Picks & Odds: Sunday Night Football - 09/21

For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, and first time since 2014, the Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5) are 0-2. They desperately need a win on Sunday Night Football against another winless team, the New York Giants (+240). Laying the points on the Chiefs tonight isn’t the worst idea.

Chiefs vs Giants Picks

Mahomes Maneuvering - Patrick Mahomes 50+ Rushing Yards (+275)

Kansas City’s passing game hasn’t been great in its first two games. Top wideout Rashee Rice has been suspended, while Xavier Worthy has been dealing with an injury. So, QB Patrick Mahomes has had to make a lot of plays with his feet.

In fact, Mahomes has led the Chiefs in rushing in two straight weeks. He’s run for a score in each of the Chiefs’ games and picked up 66 yards on seven carries in a 20-17 loss against the Eagles last Sunday.

The Giants’ passing defense will likely be more forgiving than the Eagles’, but Mahomes will still be looking to scramble. He has picked up 50 rushing yards in each of the Chiefs’ first two games, and I don’t see why he can’t repeat that feat tonight.

Bet on Mahomes 50+ rushing yards at tempting +275 odds.

Kelce to Bounce Back - Travis Kelce Over 44.5 Receiving Yards (-118)

One of the defining plays of the Chiefs’ 20-17 loss to the Eagles was a fourth-quarter Travis Kelce drop in the end zone turned interception. The Chiefs would have taken the lead on the play, but instead, the Eagles went on to score on the ensuing drive and took a 20-10 lead.

Kelce blamed himself after the loss, and we expect a better performance from him tonight. His over/under receiving yards for the game are currently 44.5. Kelce, one of the greatest tight ends of all time, has reached 45+ yards in six of his last eight regular season games.

With Xavier Worthy still listed as questionable and Rashee Rice suspended, Kelce becomes ever more important to the Chiefs’ passing game. He’s also reached 50+ receiving yards in six of his last seven games against teams with bottom-10 pass defenses.

Go with Kelce to total over 44.5 receiving yards on Sunday Night Football.

  • Chiefs vs Giants Pick 2: Travis Kelce Over 44.5 Receiving Yards @ -118 with BetMGM

Chiefs to Cover - Chiefs -6.5 (-110)

The Giants are giving up over 30 points per game and allowed the Cowboys to reach 40 in last Sunday’s overtime loss. While Giants QB Russell Wilson had a huge game (450 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT) against the Cowboys, the Chiefs’ passing defense should be much stingier.

Sure, the Chiefs haven’t looked much like the team that won back-to-back Super Bowls recently, but it’s nearly unfathomable that they’ll drop to 0-3. They’re a better football team than the Giants, and they should show it tonight during primetime.

One could certainly blame a tough early schedule for the Chiefs’ woes, as they faced two Super Bowl contenders, the Chargers and Eagles. Now, the Chiefs face the Giants, whose defense ranks 27th in EPA allowed per play. The Giants are also allowing 177 rushing yards per game.

Expect Kansas City to put things together tonight at MetLife Stadium and comfortably get its first win of the season. Lay the points on the Chiefs -6.5 (-110).

  • Chiefs vs Giants Pick 3: Chiefs -6.5 @ -110 with BetMGM

Chiefs vs Giants Start Time

The Giants’ Russell Wilson threw for 451 yards against the Cowboys last week, but the Giants still lost 40-37 in overtime. We’ll find out if it was just an anomaly when the Giants take on the Chiefs in tonight’s Week 3 Sunday Night Football game.
