The Miami Grand Prix may be done and dusted for another year, but motorsport maniacs have a couple more chances to see the F1 stars in their stunning cars on United States soil this year: United States Grand Prix (October 19) and Las Vegas Grand Prix (November 22). However, we are getting ahead of ourselves, as first things first, or next up, we head back to Europe for the Austrian Grand Prix. The lights go green at the Red Bull Ring at 9 am ET on June 29. It’s the 11th grand prix of an action-packed 24-race season that goes all the way through until December and the curtain-closer in Abu Dhabi.
After a brief stop-off on this side of the Atlantic earlier this month, the F1 stars return to race action in Europe for the first time in four weeks, when they roar off the grid at the Red Bull Ring on June 29 for the Austrian Grand Prix. There was an exhilarating, action-packed finish to the Canadian GP in Montreal, and we are expecting more high-octane drama in Spielberg. You won’t want to miss a single second of the build-up to the race, or of course the race itself, and you won’t have to, with wall-to-wall live coverage available.
George Russell broke the McLaren stranglehold and became the fourth different driver to top the podium this season, holding off Max Verstappen to clinch victory in Montreal on June 15. It was the Mercedes driver’s first race success since winning the Las Vegas Grand Prix last November and gives him a timely boost as he aims to record back-to-back Austrian victories. Montreal also proved to be momentous for Russell’s Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli, who finished third and in doing so secured a spot on an F1 podium for the first time ever. At 18 years of age, he’s the third youngest driver to achieve that feat, after Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll.
Red Bull followers are expected to descend on the Austrian city of Spielberg in their droves to cheer on Max Verstappen (and Yuki Tsunoda). Much to their joy, it has become one of the main hunting grounds for Max Verstappen, with the Dutchman holding the record for the most victories with four. Verstappen looked to be heading towards a 5th win at the track in the space of seven years, twelve months ago, but a race incident involving the 4-time F1 world champion and Lando Norris, 8 laps from the finish, saw George Russell take advantage and the chequered flag.
Although first held as an F1 event in 1964, there has been several periods when the Austrian GP was left off the race calendar. Following a 10-year hiatus, it roared back to life in 2014 and has been on the annual F1 schedule from then on. Since 1970, the race has been held at the Osterreichring, which is currently known as the Red Bull Ring due to its ownership by the Austrian drinks company. The Austrian Grand Prix remains one of the cult favourites on the Formula One circuit.
Let GOAL give you all the important information you need ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, including the full weekend schedule of events and how you can watch and stream all the action live.

The Austrian Grand Prix is staged at the Red Bull Ring, which is a motorsport race track in Spielberg, Austria. Each lap is 2.6 miles long and features 10 turns. The circuit was founded as the Osterreichring when it opened in 1969. Despite being shortened and rebuilt in the 1990s and renamed the A1-Ring, it was closed for a lengthy period from 2004. After being purchased by Red Bull's Dietrich Mateschitz, the track underwent further reconstruction and was reopened under its current guise of the Red Bull Ring. Formula One returned to the circuit in the 2014 season, with MotoGP following suit two years later. The Red Bull Ring also hosted a second F1 event named the Styrian Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic affected the schedules of those seasons.
