Ambrosini, who made nearly 500 appearances for the Rossoneri and lifted multiple trophies with the club, emphasized that Giménez’s value can’t be judged solely by his goal tally. In his view, the 23-year-old’s tactical awareness and relentless pressing have been key in helping teammates like Christian Pulisic shine this season.
“True, he hasn’t been scoring much,” Ambrosini told La Gazzetta dello Sport, “but against Juventus in Turin, he delivered one of his best performances so far - he controlled the game’s rhythm, worked tirelessly, came close with a header and a long-range shot, and even won a penalty.”
Ambrosini noted how Giménez’s movement and physical presence constantly unsettled the Juventus defense, opening up lanes for others to exploit - particularly for Pulisic, who has been one of Milan’s most productive attackers.
“Pulisic covers the entire attacking line, but he benefits from having a player like Giménez who keeps defenders occupied,” Ambrosini said. “If Christian has been performing at such a high level, some of the credit has to go to Santi.”
