  • Fans astonished by deal
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sell striker Deivid Washington to Strasbourg for €21m (£18m/$23m), in a deal that will eclipse the French club's transfer record. However, it has not gone unnoticed among supporters that the Blues are selling a player to their sister club, which is also owned by Boehly's BlueCo, for a potentially inflated fee. Washington has played just 25 minutes of football for the Blues' first-team after his €16m (£13m/$18m) arrival from Brazilian club Santos.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

@IcyChandor wrote: "At this point FFP is the least of our worries. They might actually arrest Boehly for money laundering!"

@KinyuaOD added: "BlueCo is on some serious business. Just trying to beat the rules."

@JKCPLTO said: "This must be illegal lol."

@CFCMod_ wrote: "I’m crying man this club is straight up doing money laundering because how on earth are we selling Deivid Washington to Strasbourg for €21m when he couldn’t even get a loan all summer."

@JeanCFC_ said: "We really made a profit with Deivid Washington. We are criminals..."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Boehly and Chelsea have been under the microscope for attempting to navigate Profit and Sustainability rules by selling homegrown young players for big fees. They also sold a hotel for £76m ($100m) to avoid punishment from the Premier League. It remains to be seen if any action is taken over their dealings with their sister club.
