'Fresh as a daffodil?' - Rob McElhenney can't resist a joke as Wrexham co-owner gives his verdict on club's new away kit

The Red Dragons announced their new change strip last week. The golden shirt draws its inspiration from the daffodil, Wales' national flower. Never one to miss a chance at a joke, McElhenney promoted the shirt on his Instagram story with the caption: "New kit fresh as a.... well it's a daffodil ok which is actually better".

The yellow and green design has a retro feel, as does the Red Dragons' home strip which references their 1981/82 shirt, the last time Wrexham were in the second tier.

The away strip is an exhibition of Welsh pride, with aptriotic imagery and references to the country's national anthem woven into its design. According to a statement on the club website, the shirt features "the Welsh flag on the rear collar, and internal green tape reading ‘LAND OF MY FATHERS – HEN WLAD FY NHADAU’ on the lower back”.

The first team will be wearing their new shirts on the club's pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand. The Red Dragons' preparations for the club's first season back in the second tier for more than 40 years, will continue when they face Sydney FC on Sunday.
