76ers star Paul George undergoes knee surgery, injury will be re-evaluated before pre-season camp

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George has undergone a successful arthroscopic procedure on his left knee, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The veteran forward picked up the injury during an offseason training session.

George is now set to begin his rehabilitation process and will be re-evaluated ahead of the team’s training camp. While the setback isn't ideal, the Sixers remain hopeful he'll be ready to go when preseason prep kicks off.

George now joins a growing list of key 76ers gearing up for an offseason in the treatment room. Star big man Joel Embiid is still on the mend following knee surgery that cut his campaign short, with the franchise hopeful he'll be cleared in time for training camp. The same timeline now applies to George.

The 35-year-old forward inked a four-year, $211 million deal with Philadelphia last summer but endured a stop-start debut season. Limited to just 41 appearances, George averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 43% from the field. He'll be entering his 16th NBA season this fall, looking to bounce back to full fitness.

Philadelphia opted to sideline George for the final stretch of the regular season after he received injections in both his left knee and adductor. The veteran wing was playing through the pain, taking numbing shots for five straight games leading into the All-Star break. Throughout the year, George battled through a string of knocks—including groin, finger, and knee issues—that clearly took their toll.

The 76ers limped through a disappointing 24-58 campaign, falling well short of even contending for a play-in berth.

With Paul George now sidelined indefinitely, any hopes of a sharp turnaround in 2025-26 have taken an early hit.

There was, however, a silver lining in May’s NBA Draft Lottery. Luck was on Philly’s side as they vaulted up to the No. 3 overall pick—ultimately used to select VJ Edgecombe, the standout guard out of Baylor, who’s expected to inject some much-needed spark into the backcourt.
