Osorio: Mexico need more Europe-based players to improve

More than half of El Tri's World Cup roster is based in North America, something their manager hopes will change in the future

Following his team's World Cup exit, Mexico national team manager Juan Carlos Osorio has suggested the nation must begin sending more players to Europe.

El Tri fell in the round of 16 for the seventh straight World Cup on Monday, losing 2-0 to Brazil in Samara.

Mexico started six Europe-based players in the game, and Osorio feels that number should increase in the future.

"To play man-to-man with a team like Brazil speaks well of the position of Mexico," Osorio said in his post-match press conference.

"We lacked the efficiency that they had in the final third. We must continue to try and have more players in Europe.

"As Mexican soccer exports more players, the national team will eventually get a jump in quality."

Overall, 11 of Mexico's 23-man World Cup roster ply their trade in Europe, with the other 12 playing in either Liga MX or MLS.
