Amini triumphs over Mabil in relegation play-off

Mustafa Amini has taken the bragging rights over Awer Mabil in all-Aussie battle in Denmark on Wednesday.

The duo both played 90 minutes as Amini's AGF beat Mabil's Esbjerg 3-1 in the second leg of their play-off, as part of the Danish Superliga's new convoluted end-of-season structure.

In front of over 10,000 of their fans in Aarhus, AGF hit the front in the third minute via Kasper Junker but Esbjerg took the lead on aggregate when Mads Hvilsom headed home just before the half-hour mark.

Amini played a role in AGF's second goal, as Martin Spelmann headed the Australian midfielder's deep cross down for Bjorn Daniel Sverrisson to drive the ball into the net.

Morten Rasmussen wrapped up the hosts' victory with a follow-up shot after failing to convert his own penalty.

Mabil, who is on loan from FC Midtjylland, was one of Esbjerg's liveliest players throughout the match.

Amini vs Mabil to avoid relegation

AGF advanced 3-1 on aggregate after a goal-less first leg in Esbjerg over the weekend, and they now have the chance to secure their Superliga future with victory over Viborg.
Mabil and Esbjerg will meet Horsens to avoid automatic relegation to the Danish second tier.

The winner of Esbjerg and Horsens, plus the loser of AGF and Viborg, will meet second and third from Denmark's First Division in promotion-relegation play-offs.
