AFC Leopards coach, Robert Matano is a man under siege after a section of players raised issues with his overall understanding of the game.

Matano was brought in last July from Bidco United to try and help the team get back to its knees following a turbulent start to the 2017 season.

The tactician delivered in his first six months, helping the 12-time league champions to  GOtv Shield title and a ticket to Caf Confederation Cup.

But it seems all the good work he has done might soon go to waste if reports coming from the players are anything to go by.

A senior player who sort anonymity told Goal that things are not as smooth as they should be and that has affected their output.

"Matano still believes in the old school football where long balls were mostly used. He does not want to adjust to the situation; he is scared of taking risks. He wants us to chase the ball, not to build from the back, and that demoralizes us.

"Many of our players are play-makers and can do better when given freedom to play. Playing long balls don't work for us, and it has affected our confidence on and off the ball. As a matter of fact, we are struggling badly and the outcome might not be good."

Leopards are currently preparing for the second leg of Caf Confederation Cup against Fosa Juniors of Madagascar.
