U.S. international right back Sergino Dest took another substantial step forward as he started and played 62 minutes in PSV's 3-0 rout over RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.

Luuk de Jong and Ivan Perisic led the way for Rood-witten, with both forwards having a goal and an assist for PSV. Noa Lang added a goal. The win sees PSV sit five points behind Ajax, who have a game in hand at the top of the table.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dest was impressive with four completed dribbles, two interceptions, a tackle, and 89.2 percent passing. While he didn’t play the full 90 minutes, it was likely precautionary as he continues working his way back from a significant ACL injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. This was Dest's first start since April 13, 2024, a week before he tore his ACL in PSV's following match.

Dest's return could have implications for both the U.S. and PSV. Richy Ledezma, PSV's regular starter at right back for most of the season, was left out of the 18-player squad and wasn’t listed on the injury report. Ledezma, a one-cap U.S. international, is reportedly considering a one-time switch to represent Mexico.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Before his injury, Dest was prolific at right back for PSV, with six assists and two goals in 25 appearances in the 2023-24 season.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR PSV?

With the international break, Dest and PSV are off until March 30.
