WHAT HAPPENED?
The Red Devils battled back from two goals down to earn a share of the points in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. They feared that their efforts had been in vain deep into stoppage-time time when the Toffees were awarded a spot-kick.
GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt had tangled with former United star Ashley Young, leading to him going down inside the box. Referee Andy Madley awarded a penalty, after spotting a shirt pull, but was advised by those in the VAR booth to take a second look at the incident on a pitch-side monitor.
DID YOU KNOW?
The original decision was reversed on review, leaving Everton fuming and Maguire relieved. Unsurprisingly, there was only one subject of conversation behind the scenes afterwards. Maguire was seen chatting with England colleague Jordan Pickford outside the dressing rooms.
GettyWHAT HARRY MAGUIRE SAID
That debate was interrupted by another Three Lions defender, James Tarkowski, who the Manchester Evening News report as saying: "H [Harry], you better get out of here quick, you sh*t yourself!” Maguire responded with: “It's not a pen, but I'm surprised they overturned it.” He went on to suggest that Young, who went over rather theatrically, “hadn’t helped himself”.
WHAT NEXT
Said discussion was light-hearted, but Everton boss David Moyes – who was facing his former employers – told reporters afterwards: “I just thought the referee made the correct decision at the time and he should have stuck with it. It looked to me as though the shirt pull was enough for it to be given my feeling is the pull on the jersey, you shouldn’t be getting away with pulling jerseys.”
