Rasmus Hojlund in line to join Scott McTominay at Napoli after Man Utd agree deal with Serie A giants but wait on striker to give green light to Old Trafford departure

According to The Athletic, despite United’s apparent willingness to part with him, Hojlund has made it clear that he would prefer to stay at Old Trafford, a stance that now seems increasingly uncertain after being left out of three matchday squads this season. However, Napoli, who have been desperate for a striker following Romelu Lukaku’s injury, could offer Hojlund the game time he has struggled to find in Manchester.

Hojlund’s position at United has become increasingly precarious following the signing of Benjamin Sesko in a €76.5m deal earlier this summer. In addition to the competition for minutes, new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have also added more depth to United’s attack, with both players capable of operating in a central striking role.

Hojlund’s journey at Old Trafford has been somewhat underwhelming. Despite making 52 appearances last season, he only managed to score 10 goals, with just four of them coming in the Premier League. While his potential remains clear, his inconsistent form may have made it easier for United to consider a move, especially with Sesko's arrival now likely to push him further down the pecking order.
