'It's over now' - PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says club want to leave Parc des Princes after 'wasting years trying to buy it'

The French champions have been attempting to purchase the stadium from the city of Paris but have not been able to negotiate the sale. Al-Khelaifi accused the council of discriminating against the club because of its Qatari owners and has now confirmed they will begin their search for a new stadium.

"We know what we want, we wasted years trying to buy the Parc," the club president told French media on Thursday. "It's over now. We want to move on from the Parc."

PSG have played at the Parc des Princes since 1974 but the Parisian council says the stadium belongs to the city's "heritage". The Ligue 1 team may now have to build their own stadium, having already decided against attempting to move to Stade de France, the national stadium.

"From the start we have wanted PSG to stay at the Parc des Princes," deputy for sport Pierre Rabadan said. "But we do not wish to cede Parisian heritage."

PSG wanted to buy the stadium so that they can increase its capacity from just shy of 48,000 to around 60,000. They currently have a deal in place to stay at the stadium until the end of 2043 but will now start exploring options to move to a new home.
