In 2024, reports emerged that Laporta was determined to sign the Norwegian goal machine despite Barcelona's ongoing financial constraints. The Blaugrana president wanted to complete the blockbuster signing and unveil the City star at the grand re-opening of Camp Nou.

Months after Laporta expressed his desire to sign Haaland, the 24-year-old striker signed an outrageous 10-year contract extension at City, which tied him down at Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034. The Barca chief, however, is not losing hope as he claimed "nothing is impossible", when asked about the club's ambition to sign the star forward.

Speaking to TV3, Laporta said: "Can Barcelona sign Erling Haaland? Nothing is impossible. But we’re not thinking about that right now. He also just signed a new contract."
