  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Inter and United remain in stalemate over the potential transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian side have expressed interest in bringing the Danish striker back to Serie A and have reportedly held discussions with the representatives of the player. However, the Red Devils are holding firm on their demand for either a permanent transfer or a loan deal with an obligation to buy, valuing the 22-year-old at €45 million (£38m/$48m). Inter, by contrast, are only willing to commit to a loan with an option to buy, as they intend to have a strong forward line in the upcoming season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hojlund struggled in the 2024-25 season with just 10 goals and four assists in all competitions. Despite being under contract until 2030, the forward has reportedly signaled openness to returning to Italy, where he has had a promising goal record. After Joaquin Correa, Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi's poor play, Inter see him as the best third attacker after Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. Inter depend on Hojlund's eagerness to advocate a move that leads to a breakthrough in discussions.

  • WHAT HOJLUND SAID

Hojlund spoke about his future with the Red Devils, according to TV2: "I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

With a total of 95 games played for United so far, Hojlund has managed to score 26 goals with six assists.

    WHAT NEXT FOR INTER?

Inter will continue to monitor the situation and hopes Hojlund's desire to join will help shift United's stance. Meanwhile, sporting director Piero Ausilio is also pursuing alternative options, which include Parma's Ange-Yoan Bonny and Giovanni Leoni, as the club aims to finalise reinforcements before their Club World Cup squad deadline.
