‘Cold’ Cole Palmer freezes: Chelsea star misses first penalty to end run of 12 successive spot-kick conversions

Palmer was aiming for his 13th successive successful penalty for Chelsea against Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday but Hermansen brilliantly kept his effort out in the first half of the contest at Stamford Bridge.

Prior to this match, Palmer had not scored or assisted in any of his last six Premier League games, which is his longest drought since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023. This penalty miss could put more doubt in the mind of the England international - who is going through a challenging period in his career.

According to Opta Analyst, Palmer did boast the best 100 per cent penalty record in Premier League history. However, his miss against Leicester means only Yaya Toure (11/11) and Raul Jiménez (10/10) are perfect from the spot (minimum 10 penalties taken).

Palmer will hope his penalty miss is not costly for Chelsea against Leicester as they try to climb up the Premier League table.
