- Chelsea were interested in Aston Villa's Duran
- Unai Emery confirms player out injured for 'weeks'
- Chelsea will be unable to sign the player in January
GettyWHAT HAPPENED?
Fabrizio Romano claims that although the Blues had internal discussions about pursuing the 20-year-old because Mauricio Pochettino needs a new striker, the London team never formally expressed their interest in making an offer. Duran played 26 minutes in his last appearance for Emery's side against Everton, and it was during this game that the forward sustained an injury that will keep him out for an extended period.

Duran has suffered a significant setback right as it appeared that he could have made a sensational move to Stamford Bridge. Any transfer must now wait until the summer unless Emery can guarantee him greater minutes with the team next season. In 23 appearances for Aston Villa this season, the 20-year-old has contributed to four goals and an assists in 659 minutes of play.
WHAT NEXT FOR ASTON VILLA AND CHELSEA?
The Blues will now have to shift their focus towards another target for the winter transfer window after Duran's setback, however, Pochettino has confirmed that the club is not desperate for signings this winter. Aston Villa, on the other hand, will look to plan out Duran's recovery over the next few weeks as they hope to ease the player into full fitness.
