Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund at odds over Carney Chukwuemeka transfer as loan star could have to quit Club World Cup campaign even if German giants progress

According to Sport1 Germany, Dortmund want to keep the English midfielder until the culmination of their exploits at the tournament. However, with Chukwuemeka's loan expiring at the end of June and the German club not willing to sign him on a permanent basis, Dortmund will have to find a compromise with Chelsea, his parent club.

The Blues are willing to work out a way with Dortmund, but have made it clear it would involve payment. However, the Bundesliga big hitters don't want to spend money on the 21-year-old and argue that should Chukwuemeka perform well, he will attract more interest at the tournament and it will be easier for Chelsea to offload him, while also providing game time to the midfielder, who was completely overlooked by Enzo Maresca before heading on loan in January.

Chukwuemeka arrived at Signal Iduna Park in the winter transfer window. The 21-year-old English midfielder ticked all the boxes for Dortmund, who wanted a player who can control the game in the middle and has an eye for exceptional passes. However, the youngster failed to make much of an impact and as such Dortmund are unwilling to bring him back to Germany permanently, having already found his replacement in Jobe Bellingham.

Jamie Gittens' transfer to Chelsea has again reignited, with the London club willing to spend more and fill the €5-10m gap in the player's valuation that hindered the transfer earlier. The two sides maintain a good relationship and thus positive outcomes for both Gittens and Chukwuemeka are expected in the coming days.
