Commentary

That's all from Munich today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
Bayern have the rare luxury of a week free of fixtures before tackling Leverkusen next time out, while Schalke will be Augsburg's next opponents.
A curious encounter between two very different Bavarian clubs saw Bayern's back line beaten three times, yet they still scored five in a relatively comfortable win over Augsburg and took maximum points. Pavard struck twice during the first half after the champions had fallen behind early on, but the visitors 'won' the second half 2-1 despite being on the back foot throughout. As a result of this win, Bayern go three points clear at the top ahead of today's Revierderby featuring second-placed Dortmund.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 5-3 AUGSBURG
R. Vargas
Assist
90' + 3' Vargas sprints to the left byline and pulls the ball back for Cardona to strike.
I. Cardona
Goal
90' + 3' AUGSBURG SCORE AGAIN! Vargas drives past a flat-footed Muller on the left flank as if the Bayern man is not even there, then his deflected cut-back from the byline is slid into the net by a lunging Cardona! We've had eight goals at the Allianz Arena: 5-3 to Bayern!
90' + 1' In the first of three minutes indicated for stoppage time, Augsburg win a corner, conceded by Pavard. From the subsequent set-piece, Blind heads the ball away to safety from near the penalty spot.
89' With Bayern disinterested in pressing high now that the points are won, Augsburg are finally enjoing a bit of time on the ball. However, it's all in the middle third, with little sign of a breakthrough.
87' Cardona suddenly finds himself with the ball on the left side of Bayern's box almost unopposed, but Sommer rushes out to make a timely stop with his legs.
João Cancelo
Yellow Card
85' Having thrown himself into a slightly high challenge on Pedersen on the touchline, Joao Cancelo is shown a yellow card by the referee.
D. Blind
M. de Ligt
84' Nagelsmann makes one more change, as Blind replaces De Ligt for the closing stages.
83' Released by a perfect throughball from Kimmich, substitute Tel fires off-target from the left side of the area, sending the ball comfortably over the crossbar.
82' Bayern are no longer bothered about pushing for more goals, as they keep possession by cycling the ball about inside their own half. Augsburg can barely get a kick.
80' With Muller lurking on his shoulder, just on the edge of the area, Gikiewicz has to stay cool and head away a dangerous bouncing ball through the centre.
N. Mazraoui
A. Davies
78' Having just scored, Davies is now applauded from the field; Mazraoui comes on in the Canadian's place.
R. Gravenberch
J. Musiala
77' Gravenberch also gets a brief run-out, as Musiala makes way.
N. Mbuku
A. Maier
77' In response to conceding a fifth goal, Augsburg make their fifth and final substitution: Maier is replaced by Mbuku.
João Cancelo
Assist
74' A perceptive ball from the right side of the box by Joao Cancelo picks out the run of his opposite wing-back, Davies.
A. Davies
Goal
74' BAYERN BAG A FIFTH! It's 5-2 to the champions, and that's surely game over! Joao Cancelo flips over a delightful cross from the inside-right position, and his fellow wing-back Davies meets it with an outstretched boot at the back post. The ball zips into the net, sealing three more points for the Bundesliga leaders!
M. Tel
S. Mané
72' Mane's first start for several months has gone fairly well for the Bayern striker, but he now makes way for young Tel.
T. Müller
S. Gnabry
71' Nagelsmann makes his first two changes. Gnabry is withdrawn first of all, with Muller on as his replacement.
70' Gikiewicz is comfortably able to keep out a tame attempt from Sane, whose shot towards the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box lacks pace.
68' Pedersen crosses into the Bayern box from an Augsburg corner, but Gouweleeuw can't turn his header on target under pressure from several red shirts.
66' SAVE! Sane surges to the right byline, where instead of cutting the ball back for his coleagues in the centre the winger opts to test Gikiewicz at the goalkeeper's near post. The Augsburg stopper is equal to it, though, and makes a smart save with his leg.
64' Joao Cancelo has a shot blocked, then Upamecano has a header diverted behind, as Bayern earn successive corners - they want to finish off this game once and for all!
61' Further adding to the drama, the VAR will investigate whether Berisha got a double touch on his spot-kick, as he slipped while converting it. After a minute or so of consideration, the goal is confirmed: it stays 4-2 to Bayern!
M. Berisha
Penalty Goal
60' A BRACE FOR BERISHA! Despite slipping on the penalty spot, Berisha manages to steer the ball into the bottom-right corner, leaving Sommer well beaten! Are Augsburg back in this game? It's now just 4-2 to Bayern!
M. de Ligt
Yellow Card
59' Clumsily bringing down Cardona in the box brings De Ligt a yellow card, in addition to conceding a penalty.
58' PENALTY FOR AUGSBURG! Maier lashes a thunderous strike at goal, which Sommer can only parry, and as Cardona looks to pick up the rebound 10 yards out he finds himself bundled over by De Ligt! There's no doubt in the referee's mind: that's a penalty!
57' Gikiewicz gets away with almost losing the ball near his goal-line, as Mane presses furiously and forces the goalkeeper to stay calm before clearing the ball.
55' JUST OVER! Vargas almost makes an impact following his introduction as a half-time substitute, as he sees a shot from the edge of the box zip over the bar, with Sommer scrambling in order to make a save if required!
54' CLOSE! After Musiala has a well-struck shot charged down by Iago, the ball ultimately finds its way to Mane again. On this occasion, the Senegalese star lashes his 20-yard attempt narrowly over the crossbar!
52' Mane gets it all wrong when presented with a chance to shoot by Davies, as he takes aim at the latter's cutback first time and mishits the ball harmlessly wide of the target.
50' Though Mane guides the ball home neatly from just inside the area, his joy is immediately cut short when the flag goes up to indicate he was offside. It was a close call, but the right one.
48' A familiar pattern is being played out in the early stages of the second half, as despite Augsburg's substitutions they can't get a grip on the game.
R. Vargas
E. Demirović
46' Finally, Demirovic is hauled off, with Vargas on in his place.
I. Cardona
D. Beljo
46' Cardona comes on for Beljo up front.
E. Rexhbeçaj
A. Engels
46' Engels is replaced by Rexhbecaj in midfield.
Iago
R. Gumny
46' Augsburg have made four changes at half-time, in response to their collapse. First, Gumny makes way for Iago.
46' Bayern kick off, and we are back under way at the Allianz Arena!
While Bayern are unbeaten in their last 85 Bundesliga matches when leading at half-time, dating back to February 2019, Augsburg have a record of W0, D1, L3 when trailing at the interval this season. That sums up the size of the visitors' task during the second half.
Stirred by a second-minute setback, Bayern have responded well to going behind early on and a flurry of first-half goals sees them sailing towards victory, even with 45 minutes left to play. Augsburg applied pressure in the opening stages and were rewarded by Berisha's latest goal against the champions, but they subsequently found themselves picked apart by the home side's set-piece skills and clinical finishing - surely there's no way back after the break?
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 4-1 AUGSBURG
45' + 1' Bayern have now scored 25 goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half this season - more than any other side in the Bundesliga.
L. Sané
Goal
45' SANE STRIKES! Bayern have four before half-time! This time, Mane picks up the ball on the left of the area, and his heavily deflected low cross pops up into the air for Sane to nod home from only a few feet out! Augsburg are being pulled apart here, it's 4-1!
42' Augsburg can't make much of a rare spell of possession in the Bayern half, and the home side are almost on cruise control since overcoming their early setback.
40' Following Kimmich's latest corner, Gnabry's shot from the centre of the box flies high and wide to the left of the goal.
39' SUPER STOP! Gikiewicz dives full-length to keep out a Mane shot towards the top corner, following a stood-up cross from Gnabry! That's a fine save, which just about keeps his ailing side in the game!
37' Thanks to Pavard's first-ever brace as a professional, Bayern have now scored 46 first-half goals in 24 Bundesliga games this season.
B. Pavard
Goal
35' PAVARD POACHES ANOTHER! Bayern extend their advantage! Capitalising on a period of pressure, the hosts earn a corner, which is taken from the right by Kimmich. His cross is headed down by De Ligt, then breaks for Pavard 10 yards out. The Frenchman coolly hitch-kicks the ball past a helpless Gikiewicz and into the bottom-left corner: 3-1!
33' Perhaps ill-advisedly, Sane tries his luck from distance, only to see his wild effort rise well over the crossbar, bringing groans from the home fans.
32' Sommer is hardly troubled by a tame Maier shot from the edge of the area, which the Swiss keeper saves in the bottom-left corner of his goal.
31' Following their bright start, the visitors are increasingly unable to get a foothold in this match. Bayern look fairly comfortable now.
29' The game resumes, with Gouweleeuw deciding to continue despite his injury. Bayern are quickly back on the attack, but Sane sees his progress stopped by a foul 25 yards from goal.
27' Gouweleeuw requires medical treatment for a hand injury, and Augsburg are already warming up potential replacements for the centre-back, who looks in some pain. The action is brought to a temporary halt.
25' Under pressure from Gnabry in an aerial challenge near the penalty spot, Gouweleeuw has to concede a corner. The Augsburg captain then gives his fellow defenders a piece of his mind!
23' Augsburg are clearly stunned by suddenly finding themselves behind in a game they were recently leading, but they at least steady the ship during a scrappy spell played out in midfield.
21' The ball bobbles into Engels' path 25 yards out, and he can't resist a crack at goal, which merely trundles well wide of the right-hand post due to his failure to connect properly.
S. Mané
Assist
18' Mane athletically turns the ball back into the danger area, for Pavard to pounce.
B. Pavard
Goal
18' BAYERN GO IN FRONT! All of a sudden it's 2-1 to Der Rekordmeister! Augsburg fail to clear Kimmich's free-kick from the right flank, and when Mane spectacularly flicks the ball back into the six-yard box, Pavard is on hand to force it into the net from close range!
M. Pedersen
Yellow Card
18' For a foul on Cancelo, Pedersen not only concedes a free-kick but also receives the game's first booking.
17' Bayern now have a free-kick on the right touchline, around 30 yards out from goal, which Kimmich is shaping up to swing in.
L. Sané
Assist
15' Sane plays the ball out wide for Cancelo, who does the rest after receiving the ball on the right side of the area.
João Cancelo
Goal
15' BAYERN PULL LEVEL! The champions didn't trail for long: an emphatic finish from Joao Cancelo, who turned his marker inside and out on the right side of the box before pulling the trigger, makes it 1-1! The wing-back received the ball from Sane initially, but it was a superb individual effort for his first Bundesliga goal!
13' To a chorus of jeers and whistles, the referee turns down an appeal for a Bayern free-kick, then after the hosts have reclaimed the ball, Gnabry picks up the ball on the left. He jinks inside to tee up a 20-yard shot but sends it spiralling over the crossbar.
11' SAVE! Gikiewicz makes a sharp stop at his near post, after Musiala squeezes in a shot from a tight angle near the left byline, having been played in by Davies. Soon after, the flag goes up to indicate a marginal offside in any case.
8' After Musiala springs a counter-attack through the centre, his ball reaches Gnabry on the right. However, the latter's attempt to pick out Sane, who is charging through the middle towards the area, lacks accuracy and the move breaks down.
6' Gikiewicz makes a routine save in the centre of his goal, after Cancelo receives the ball from Sane on the right side of the box and then fails to fully catch his low shot.
4' Not only has Berisha has now scored the opening goal in six Bundesliga matches this season, but he has also found the net in all three of his games against Bayern to date.
M. Berisha
Goal
2' AUGSBURG LEAD! They've done it again! Augsburg strike first against Bayern - and it's that man Berisha! Capping off some early pressure, the visitors benefit from a game of head-tennis on the edge of the Bayern box, as the ball drops to their striker, who turns his man neatly and slots the ball past Sommer into the bottom-right corner!
1' A long throw-in from Gumny is flicked on in the area, forcing Bayern to concede an early corner. From the inswinging set-piece, Sommer is required to punch the ball clear to safety from next to his near post.
1' After a short delay for Sommer's goal-net to be repaired, Augsburg kick off and we are under way in Munich!
The players are out on the pitch in the Bavarian sunshine, and kick-off is now just moments away!
Scorer of the deciding goal against Bayern last autumn, Augsburg's Berisha was only fit enough for the bench last week due to illness but returns up front today. Maassen recalls Bauer in central defence, while Baumgartlinger makes his 250th Bundesliga appearance in midfield. Felix Uduokhai, Reece Oxford, Andre Hahn and Tobias Strobl are among those sidelined by injury.
Bayern's Mane makes his first start since recovering from a leg injury sustained in November, having come off the bench in the last three matches. Pavard returns from suspension to replace Stanisic, with Joao Cancelo among those also coming into the side. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting misses out with a back problem, while Manuel Neuer and Lucas Hernandez remain absent due to long-term injuries.
SUBS: Tomas Koubek, Ruben Vargas, Renato Veiga, Nathanael Mbuku, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Iago, Irvin Cardona, Daniel Caligiuri, Kelvin Yeboah.
AUGSBURG (4-4-2): Rafal Gikiewicz; Robert Gumny, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Maximilian Bauer, Mads Pedersen; Arne Maier, Arne Engels, Julian Baumgartlinger, Ermedin Demirovic; Mergim Berisha, Dion Drena Beljo.
SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman, Noussair Mazraoui, Josip Stanisic, Thomas Muller, Ryan Gravenberch, Daley Blind, Mathys Tel.
BAYERN MUNICH (3-4-3): Yann Sommer; Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt; Joao Cancelo, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies; Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Sadio Mane.
Augsburg's Bavaria-born striker Mergim Berisha scored the winner when they last faced Bayern in the Bundesliga - a rare success against their more illustrious neighbours. Die Fuggerstadter's coach Enrico Maassen recorded his first home win in September's reverse fixture, and more recently, a 2-1 success against Werder Bremen last week took his team eight points clear of the relegation zone. Ahead of today's game, Augsburg may have won all four of their home games in 2023 but have lost all four on the road.
Aiming to stay ahead of their nearest title rivals by picking up more points today, Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga by virtue of goal difference ahead of Borussia Dortmund. Victory against Stuttgart last week took Julian Nagelsmann's side back above BVB by the slenderest of margins, and the latter will play later on today, meeting Schalke 04 in the Revierderby. Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 on Wednesday to reach the last eight of the Champions League, and must now tackle their regional rivals.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Augsburg at the Allianz Arena!
