Gor Mahia will return to action in the Caf Confederation Cup when they take on Tanzanian side Yanga FC in a Group D match on Wednesday.
The two sides had registered mixed results from their initial matches in the group; Yanga lost 4-0 away against USM Alger, before registering a barren draw at home versus Rayon Sports.
K’Ogalo, just like Yanga, has not tasted victory in the stage the first match away to Rwanda ended one all with the second one against the North African side ending in a barren draw at Kasarani.
With Yanga coming, the Dylan Kerr led side has to do absolutely everything to ensure they get maximum points to stand a chance of progressing to the quarter finals of the same competition.
In 2015, when the two teams faced each other in the Cecafa Cup, goals from Harun Shakava and Michael Olunga saved Dirk Glay - who had scored an own goal, blushes.
But this being a different competition, what should Gor Mahia do to claim maximum points?

Gor Mahia have not had the best year as far as the out of the pitch matters are concerned. The team has had up and downs owing to money issues, players have been demanding allowances that have not been forth coming, with the management playing ping pong with them. Taking the pitch with such mentality will not do them any good, and it will lead to a disjointed display, and in search situation a loss will be inevitable.
Playing as a unit
One thing that has made K’Ogalo hit greater heights this season is their ability to play as a team, from the defense all the way to the attack. It should not stop against Yanga; it has to be done even better. Attacking and defending in unison will limit their opponents from making less calculated moves. Pressure will not be on one department and burden will be shared meaning every player will feel needed and important.

Gor Mahia has conceded a total of seven goals in their last five matches, apart from their third play-off match, in the Cecafa. It is not a good sign for coach Dylan Kerr, something has to be done ASAP. Allowing Yanga to get an early goal might work against the home team, the main thing is to avoid mistakes at the back and ensure that does not happen at all.
Take chances: Gor Mahia has no problem in creating scoring opportunities, the problem is conveting them into goals. The departure of Rwandese striker Meddie Kagere has not made things better for the sixteen-time league champions. Ephram Guikan lacks that composure in front of the goal and that might haunt his team. He should improve his conversion rate, that will definitely endear him to the fans and his confidence will grow. If fans turn out in large numbers and rally behind the team, then things will definitely go well for the Kenya representatives.
