ISL: ATK rope in Mumbai City FC's defender Aiborlang Khongjee

Two-time ISL champions ATK have signed former Mumbai City FC defender Aiborlang Khongjee for the upcoming season....

Mumbai City FC’s central defender Aiborlang Khongjee has joined two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK for the 2018/19 season.

Aiborlang makes a return to Kolkata after a span of four years. He last played for Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan where he had spent two seasons (2012-14). He had also signed for East Bengal earlier in his career but did not play a single match.

Other than Mohun Bagan, the defender has played for I-League side Shillong Lajong from 2007-12. In the ISL he has represented NorthEast United FC (2014 and 2015) and Mumbai City FC (2016 and 2017/18). He has played a total of 33 matches in ISL. Last season, he did not play a single league match for the Mumbai-based franchise due to injury.

The 30-year-old made his international debut in 2013 and have played just five matches for Indian national team.

Aibor becomes the fifth defender this season to join ATK. They had earlier signed John Johnson, Sena Ralte, Ricky Lallawmawma and Arnab Mondal.

After a poor season in the ISL where they finished ninth, the Sanjeev Goenka-owned side are on a signing spree. They have also signed players like Kalu Uche, Cavin Lobo and Arindam Bhattacharya to bolster their squad.
