Sergio Lobera joins long list of managers sacked while on top of the table

FC Goa sent shockwaves of disbelief on Saturday after they announced of their decision to part ways with head coach Sergio Lobera. The Spanish gaffer led his side to the Indian Super League (ISL) final last season, won the Super Cup and the Gaurs were on top of the table when the announcement was made.

It seemed absurd that Goa decided to fire a manager of Lobera's calibre, given his impact, not only on the club's playing style but Indian football as a whole. It is understood that the relationship between the board and the Spaniard was beyond repair and he was hence, relieved of his duties.
