Mother Nature had other plans for the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles on Friday, forcing their series opener to be postponed due to rain. Instead, the two teams will kick off their weekend clash with a Saturday doubleheader at Comerica Park.
The Tigers are riding high as they wrap up a 10-game homestand, fresh off a strong showing against the San Diego Padres. Though they couldn’t complete a sweep over the Kansas City Royals earlier in the week, Detroit bounced back by taking two of three from the Padres—who arrived in town with the best record in baseball. Now, they’ll look to cap off their homestand with another statement series.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are searching for a spark after a rough stretch. They stumbled against the Washington Nationals, dropping their latest series, and before that, they were thoroughly outplayed by the Cincinnati Reds, who outscored them 37-14 over three games. Baltimore will be eager to turn things around in Detroit, but the Tigers won’t make it easy.
With two games on tap Saturday, both clubs will have plenty of opportunities to set the tone for the weekend—weather permitting, of course.

Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles team news, injury reports & key players
Detroit Tigers team news
On the Tigers' side, Gleyber Torres has been heating up after his offseason move from the Yankees. He's been batting second as the team’s second baseman, hitting .283 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 13 games. Spencer Torkelson, Detroit's top power hitter, leads the team with seven home runs, 21 RBIs, and 24 hits. He's been moved to the fifth spot in the lineup after spending the start of the season as the cleanup hitter. Riley Greene, who bats third, contributed two hits and an RBI on Wednesday. He’s slugged three home runs and driven in 10 RBIs this season.
The Tigers will hand the ball to Casey Mize, who has been a bright spot in Detroit’s rotation this season. Sporting a sharp 3-1 record and a stellar 2.22 ERA, the right-hander has outperformed expectations, even if advanced metrics suggest he’s had some good fortune. Ranked just 126th among MLB starters, regression could be looming—projections forecast him going about 5.4 innings while surrendering 2.6 earned runs. To keep the Orioles’ bats quiet, he'll need to tighten up his command after allowing over five hits per outing so far.
Baltimore Orioles team news
Rutschman, who plays catcher but occasionally serves as the designated hitter, leads the Orioles in at-bats. He's batting .214 with four home runs and eight RBIs. Cedric Mullins, Baltimore's leadoff hitter and center fielder, leads the team in several categories, including home runs (6), RBIs (19), hits (22), and batting average (.297). Gunnar Henderson, who was an MVP candidate last season, has returned to the lineup after missing some games due to injury. The shortstop is currently hitting .212 with two home runs.
Opposing him will be Baltimore's Brandon Young, who is looking to rebound after a rocky season debut. The righty was tagged for a 6.75 ERA in his first start, though his 4.85 xFIP hints that bad luck may have played a role. Still, the projections aren't kind—he's expected to give up around 4.4 hits and 1.6 walks per game, numbers that won’t cut it against a Tigers lineup finding its groove.
