'Any club can imagine having Leon Goretzka' - Man Utd face competition from Bayern Munich's Bundesliga rivals for out-of-favour midfielder as sports director confirms interest
Manchester United may face competition for Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka from an unlikely Bundesliga team.
The Red Devils have reportedly been keeping tabs on the German international amid his struggles for game time at Bayern. However, Union Berlin sports director Horst Heldt wants to bring the 29-year-old to Die Eisernen, saying "any club can imagine having Goretzka".

WHAT HORST HELDT SAID
He told Bild: "It is known, that his [Goretzka's] current situation isn’t easy. He’ll obviously think about his future. Any club can imagine having Leon Goretzka. We can also imagine that very, very well."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
German publication Berliner Kurier claims it is 'likely' that Goretzka will leave Bayern in the January transfer window but a move to Union Berlin is unlikely. That is because he will be too expensive for the Berlin side as he is said to be on wages of €14 million (£11.6m) a year. However, Goretzka is reportedly not averse to heading out on loan to get more game time in the second half of the campaign. The 6ft 2in midfielder has been a regular at Bayern for years but under new manager Vincent Kompany he has started just one game this term. It seems this will be his last season at the German giants.
