Western Sydney Wanderers deny Popovic a winning start with Perth Glory

Western Sydney Wanderers have dealt former coach Tony Popovic a 1-1- draw on his A-League debut with Perth Glory. 

After a sluggish start from both sides, Andy Keogh would dust off Glory's cobwebs in the 25th minute as he put Perth ahead.

The striker making the most of a sloppy turnover from the Wanderers to finish at the far post after an initial save from Vedran Janjetovic.

Having laid on the assist for the opener, Neil Kilkenny nearly got on the score sheet himself before the break with Janjetovic forced into a strong save.

After a poor first-half, Western Sydney emerged from the break with more purpose and Oriol Riera quickly forced a save from Liam Reddy in the 48th minute with a header.

Perth nearly doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Alex Grant headed an effort onto the post, only for the Wanderers to find themselves level minutes later.

Full of confidence after drawing level, the red and black should have taken the lead less than ten minutes later when Riera fired high from close range after brilliant link-up play from Alexander Baumjohann. 

Perth would miss a guilt-edged chance of their own in the 83rd minute when former Wanderers Chris Ikonomidis put his free header wide.

A game of two halves in the end with Western Sydney finishing the game with a wet sail to salvage a 1-1 draw.
