Okumbi drops Gor Mahia players from Harambee Stars

Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi has been forced to drop five Gor Mahia players ahead of friendly match with Malawi.

The five - Boniface Oluoch, Musa Mohammed, Haroun Shakava, Ernest Wendo and Kenneth Muguna - failed to report to training on Monday hence the decision. A statement obtained by Goal from the federation confirmed the same.

"As you are aware Harambee Stars is set to play Malawi on Tuesday April 18, 2017, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos beginning 3pm. Consequently, the team held its first training sessions today, Monday, April 10, 2017, in preparation for the aforementioned.

"Regrettably, five players namely Boniface Oluoch, Musa Mohammed, Harun Shakava, Ernest Wendo and Kenneth Muguna all of Gor Mahia FC, who had been called to camp by Coach Stanley Okumbi failed to show up due to club engagements and will now miss the friendly.

"Football Kenya Federation intends to have the national team play at-least one friendly per month in preparation for the 2018 Chan tournament set to be held in Kenya."
