Karela United coach Smith slams supporters after sacking chants

Karela United FC coach Johnson Smith has hit back at the club's supporters following ‘sacking chants’ in the wake of their home draw with Techiman Eleven Wonders last weekend.

The newly-promoted club have picked a point from two games and head to Obuasi to face table toppers Ashanti Gold on Wednesday, with a section of the supporters calling for the dismissal of the coach.

"I don't see the reason why the supporters were chanting the last time for me to be sacked and even threatening before our next game. Honestly, I don't know the motive behind this," Smith told Nhyira FM.

"I think the supporters are naive with the premier league dynamics. They're doing this probably because it is the first time a club from the community is participating in the top-flight. They haven't experienced such an atmosphere before so obviously, some will not have the patience," he said.

"In the games played so far, we have exhibited good footballing skills and created a lot of scoring opportunities but in the end, the players fluffed those chances.

"How can you start blaming the coach when in fact, he is doing a great job but the players are rather not taking the chances? I think they're totally wrong to do that to me," he added.

Karela won Zone 2 of the Ghana Division One last season without dropping a point at home.
