Not only will two of English football’s leading clubs be locking horns for the right to take in another day out at Wembley in the last four of the competition, there is also the Jose Mourinho factor to take into account.

A man who enjoyed considerable success in west London over the course of two spells in the dugout will be taking in a second fixture with United back in familiar surroundings.

He will be hoping to fare considerably better than he did first time around, when Chelsea inflicted a humbling 4-0 defeat on their former boss.

United have gone unbeaten through 17 Premier League fixture since that forgettable afternoon in October, but their top-flight standing has surprisingly stayed the same.

They have been able to close on the top four and potential Champions League qualification, but table-topping Chelsea have taken the opportunity to remind their upcoming foes that while they are surging clear at the summit, those at Old Trafford have been treading water.

A pre-match build-up article on the club’s official website read: "Monday’s cup opponents are enjoying a long unbeaten run in the league stretching back to October.

"It has lifted them all the way from sixth to sixth.

"That last defeat was, of course, the one they endured at the Bridge.

"Pedro’s 29.6 seconds opener in that 4-0 triumph remains the fastest goal in the league this season."

While United have remained stuck in sixth spot throughout their lengthy unbeaten run, they have enjoyed success in other areas.

The EFL Cup has already been safely secured, while progress has been made to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Chelsea, then, will need to be on their guard when the Red Devils take in a trip to the capital, regardless of what the league table says or the outcome of past meetings between the two suggests might happen.
