The Houston Dash are back at Shell Energy Stadium as they welcome the North Carolina Courage for a Friday night NWSL showdown.
Houston clawed their way to a hard-fought draw last Saturday in San Jose, thanks to a wild finish that saw three goals scored in the final 20 minutes. Avery Patterson set up Kiki Van Zanten for her first-ever regular-season goal in the 72nd minute, and the Notre Dame product made no mistake, smashing home the equalizer. The late drama didn’t stop there—Sophie Schmidt rose high in the 88th minute to head home Delanie Sheehan’s corner, sealing a thrilling point with her first goal of the season.
On the other side, North Carolina returned to league action with a gritty scoreless draw at home against San Diego Wave FC, extending their unbeaten streak to three matches. It was the first time the Courage were kept off the scoresheet since mid-April. That run includes a comeback win over the Dash back on June 21, when goals from Jaedyn Shaw and Hannah Betfort flipped the game after Patterson gave Houston the lead just 52 seconds in, setting a new club record for fastest goal scored.
