The mood couldn’t be more different in the Pumas camp. Efrain Juarez's squad stumbled badly in midweek, falling 3-1 to FC Juarez at the Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez. For America, the injury board looks far more crowded. Rodrigo Aguirre is nursing an eye injury, and Sebastian Caceres has been slowed by muscle cramps. Midfield maestro Alvaro Fidalgo remains out with a knee problem that will likely keep him sidelined until early November, a blow considering how central he is to Andre Jardine's system. Things are even more grim for youngster Dagoberto Espinoza, who is facing a lengthy layoff with a cruciate ligament tear, ruling him out until late March 2026.

Veteran Jonathan dos Santos is battling a calf injury and isn’t expected back until mid-October, while striker Henry Martin is still recovering from a knee knock that should keep him out until early October.

In short, America's depth is being stretched thin. With so many influential names missing, the pressure will fall on the likes of Alejandro Zendejas and Diego Valdés to keep the machine ticking, and make sure this doesn't turn into one of those "what if" stretches that haunt a title run.

Pumas UNAM head into the weekend with a couple of notable absences. Defender Pablo Lara won't be available as he's away on international duty, while Santiago Lopez is sidelined after suffering a broken finger. Not the kind of depth issues Efrain Juarez would've wanted heading into a high-stakes clasico.
