PGMOL verdict on Myles Lewis-Skelly's controversial red card revealed as Arsenal prepare to appeal sending off against Wolves

Referee Michael Oliver sent off Arsenal left-back Lewis-Skelly for fouling Wolves' Matt Doherty when he tried to race clear and VAR Darren England supported his call that it was "serious foul play". Now, the PGMOL says this challenge near Wolves' area was "high and extremely late," according to Sky Sports. The Gunners are expected to appeal the dismissal.

Arsenal went on to claim a crucial victory at Wolves on Saturday thanks to Riccardo Calafiori's second-half winner. But this game may be remembered for another controversial decision that the officials, arguably, got wrong.

Manager Mikel Arteta added on the sending off: "It is that clear and I will leave it to you guys. I am absolutely fuming. But I will leave it with you, it is that obvious that I don't think my words are going to help."

While second-placed Arsenal deliberate the merits of an appeal, they travel to Girona on in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
