THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mbappe moved away from Paris Saint-Germain in order to win the Champions League more frequently. However, Luis Enrique's side blitzed their way to European glory in their first season without the World Cup-winning forward, whose new Madrid team were knocked out in the quarter-finals. Dembele has stepped up and led the team to a treble with Mbappe long gone and is one of the favourites for this year's Ballon d'Or after winning a club treble. However, he faces stern competition from Yamal, who won La Liga with Barcelona as he continues his incredible rise to superstardom.
WHAT MBAPPE SAID
Speaking in a press conference on Saturday, Mbappe said:"Would I vote for Dembele? Yes. I don't think it needs much explaining. People are talking about Lamine Yamal and Dembele, but my choice is clear: I vote for Dembele."
DID YOU KNOW?
While Vinicius came second to Rodri in last year's voting, prompting a meltdown of epic proportions from Real Madrid, the Brazilian is a rank outsider due to Madrid's disappointing season.

WHAT NEXT FOR MBAPPE?
Mbappe will be hoping to lead France to third place in the Nations League finals when they meet fellow semi-final losers Germany on Sunday. However, Dembele will not be available after suffering a hip injury.
