WHAT HAPPENED
NJ/NY Gotham FC signed Brazilian international forward Gabi Portilho to a multi-year contract through 2026, with an option for 2027., the club announced Monday.
Portilho was a 2024 Ballon d’Or Féminin nominee and spent the last four years with Brazilian side Corinthians. For the Brazilian women's national team, the 29-year-old has earned 26 caps and was a member of the 2024 Olympic team that reached the gold medal match against the USWNT.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Portilho's contract will take an international spot on NJ/NY Gotham FC's roster, but that is all pending receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. Her creativity and force up top will be a major asset for Gotham, especially after the team traded Lynn Williams.
