  • WHAT HAPPENED?

City star Grealish is attracting interest from Bayern and Napoli amid growing uncertainty over his future at the Etihad Stadium, according to ESPN. Grealish, 29, is expected to leave the club following a poor 2024–25 campaign and exclusion from City’s Club World Cup squad.

Pep Guardiola's squad are reportedly open to selling Grealish, while the German and the Italian team are exploring a move, possibly on loan. Everton, Tottenham, and Aston Villa have also emerged as potential suitors. The player is under contract until 2027.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Grealish made only 20 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal and registering one assist. He lost his place in the team behind Savinho and Jeremy Doku. He was also left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad. Since joining City in 2021 from Aston Villa for £100 million, he has scored 17 goals and provided 23 assists in 157 appearances across all competitions.

  • WHAT WAS SAID?

At the Club World Cup, Guardiola commented on his decision not to take Grealish to the United States. The Spanish coach emphasised that this was not for reasons unrelated to sport: "The only reason he didn't play was me – not his behaviour or anything else."

Grealish remains a "top player," but his competitors were stronger. Guardiola explained: "I only want the best for Jack – for him, his partner, his children, his family. I have never doubted his quality. Without him, we would not have won the treble back then."

    WHAT NEXT?

Napoli are reportedly exploring a loan arrangement with City, which will cover part of his wages, while Bayern’s interest hinges on the club’s decision regarding their pursuit of a wide player, with alternatives like Nick Woltemade still under evaluation. Only time will tell if Grealish intends to join Kane in the Bundesliga, De Bruyne in Serie A or if he wants to stay in England.
