Lampard-like Sigurdsson could play for Real Madrid or Bayern – Clement

Swansea boss Paul Clement feels that attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has the talent to flourish at any top club in Europe.

The Iceland captain enjoyed another fantastic performance as the Swans beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday, bagging an assist and superbly well-taken winning goal.

And when questioned whether Sigurdsson could make the grade at some of the high-profile clubs he has helped coach in the past, Clement compared the attacker to a Chelsea great.

“I've seen worse players than him playing at that level,” the former Bayern assistant coach said.

“He's a very good player. I see someone who is fully committed to this club and team and himself, working everyday to be the best he can be. He is a player, not dissimilar to Frank Lampard.”

With the Welsh side having turned around their fortunes since Clement's appointment, the hope around the club is that underperforming players will begin to hit their stride as they reach the business end of the season.

Among those in that bracket is Spanish striker Borja, who has scored only one goal in 13 appearances since his arrival and was in January linked with a move back to La Liga, but Clement is eager to help the 24-year-old turn his own form around.

“He is a good professional, he works very hard in training,” the manager said. “Obviously the transition from La Liga to the Premier League has been a difficult one for him for lots of different reasons, but I see him as someone who is focused on his job and wants to help this team stay in this league.

“He clearly has some talent and ability and we have to work together to find that confidence and have him deliver for this team.”
