The 50-year-old tactician enjoyed a relatively successful campaign with the Sea Robbers during his time with them before leaving for the Red Devils. He has since explained his decision to leave the Buccaneers, who needed him to stay, owing to the relationship they had built in the three years of association.

When the Buccaneers announced the Moroccan tactician as Jose Riveiro’s successor at the beginning of the season, many were left unconvinced. The lanky former defender had big shoes to fill, replacing a man who had won the hearts of the ‘Happy People’ after bringing much-craved success.

The Spaniard left the Sea Robbers after three years, and the club's skipper says it was a good decision for both parties. Although he has been described as a tired figure by the end of last season, he went on to coach African giants Al Ahly straight away after leaving the Bucs, which saw him getting sacked after just seven games in charge.

The Buccaneers are enjoying an incredible run of form that has seen their coach write his own piece of history to be counted among some of the iconic former tacticians of the club. This is despite the former Fulham defender still being in the early phase of his life at the Soweto giants.

After losing out on the league title, CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup in his final weeks in charge, the Spanish coach lost his intensity which led to immediate problems when he took on the Red Devils hotseat.
