    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has responded to rumours linking him with a return to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Red Devils are in the market again, searching for a head coach after they parted ways with former Orlando Pirates' Jose Riveiro.

  • WHAT MOSIMANE SAID

With the vacant position attracting numerous speculations, Mosimane is one of the coaches linked with the Cairo giants.

The former Bafana Bafana coach was in charge of Al Ahly between 2020 and 2022, where he registered massive achievements: six titles in total, including two CAF Champions Leagues, the Egyptian Premier League, and the Egyptian Super Cup.

As rumours intensify that he is considering a return, Mosimane has responded, saying such rumours are far from the truth.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Al Ahly sacked Riveiro, who only registered one win in seven games, and the last game the Spaniard took charge of was a 2-0 defeat to Pyramids FC.

It was the second time the African champions outclassed Riveiro after they eliminated his Pirates' side at the semi-final of the Champions League last season.

Now, apart from Mosimane, who guided the Red Devils to back-to-back third-place finishes at the FIFA Club World Cup, former Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez has also been linked with Al Ahly.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOSIMANE?

Eyes still remain keen to see where Mosimane will land next. His experience and achievements with various clubs make him one of the top coaches who is still unattached.

Before Pirates finally appointed Abdeslam Ouaddou, Mosimane was linked with a move back to the Soweto giants, a club he played for during his active days.

He had also been linked with Al Ahly's arch-rivals, Zamalek SC.
