Pyramids FC head coach Rhulani Mokwena has weighed in on the development of South African sensation Relebohile Mofokeng, dismissing the notion that the youngster needs to gain significant muscle mass to thrive in Europe. The tactician believes the technical demands of elite leagues often outweigh the need for sheer physical bulk.
Relebohile Mofokeng has seen his stock rise at a meteoric rate following his high-profile move from Orlando Pirates to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise. The South African sensation is already proving to be one of the most shrewd acquisitions in the Belgian top flight this season.
In a surprise move, the 21-year-old has transferred to Belgian outfit KV Kortrijk ahead of the new season. The midfielder has signed a four year contract with De Kerels, which comes off the back of his first season with the senior Blue-Black team where he made 11 appearances and scored one goal.
South Africa's head coach has offered his assessment of the 21-year-old's imminent move to the Belgian Pro League. The Orlando Pirates sensation is on the verge of a lucrative switch to Royale-Union St Gilloise following a stellar domestic season and an eye-catching World Cup campaign.
In a statement released online the Soweto club confirmed all the fevered speculation was correct and the 21-year-old was getting his dream move to Europe. They also revealed that the deal had already been concluded before Mofokeng left for the World Cup but was kept quiet to allow the youngster to focus on the tournament.
With multiple media outlets reporting the youngster is finalising a deal to move to Belgium champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Blues legend Salomon Kalou has thrown his weight behind the 21-year-old, insisting the youngster has the quality and technical ability to thrive in any European league.
