England stars of past and present are lapping up some winter sunshine during a warm weather break in Abu Dhabi. Ex-City captain Houghton, who retired at the end of the 2023-24 season, is back among familiar faces in Gareth Taylor’s ranks as a club ambassador and project officer.

She is not being put through her paces as strenuously as Kelly and Co, as they prepare for the resumption of competitive action in 2025, but has enjoyed forming part of activities that are intended to lift the collective mood in a trophy-chasing squad.

In the relative cool of the Middle Eastern evening, Kelly and Houghton headed out on a motorised scooter. While whizzing down the streets of the UAE capital city, they broke into a rendition of the Oscar-winning song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ – which Canadian singer Dion recorded for the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic.

Their efforts have attracted some gentle ribbing on social media, as it is suggested that they should stick to their day job, but both were clearly having fun and Kelly will be happy to have a smile on her face again after seeing questions asked of her long-term future at WSL side City.
