Precious points were dropped on home soil by Roberto De Zerbi’s side in their latest outing, but it could have been worse had ex-Manchester United forward Greenwood not registered his 13th goal of a productive debut campaign at Stade Velodrome.

Marseille fell behind midway through the first half against Strasbourg as Emanuel Emegha opened the scoring. There were 68 minutes on the clock by the time that Greenwood confidently strode up to the spot and fired the ball low into the bottom corner.

Chelsea loanee Andrey Santos conceded the penalty that allowed Greenwood to restore parity, with the Brazilian midfielder enduring mixed fortunes on the night. It was his perfectly-weighted pass that allowed Emegha to break the deadlock, but a clumsy challenge in the second-half undid much of that good work.

Santos has continued to impress in France after seeing a loan switch from Stamford Bridge extended through the 2024-25 campaign. Greenwood is also earning plenty of plaudits, with the talented 23-year-old landing the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for December.
