    WHAT HAPPENED?

Whitham was in the right place at the right time to secure the victory in second-half stoppage time for the reigning National Women's Soccer League champions on Tuesday night. Following this semi-final win in the pre-season tournament in Colombia, the under-18 Gotham trialist will now prepare for the final against Racing Louisville this weekend.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Whitham's winner comes a couple of weeks after Nike signed the youngster to a name, image, and likeness deal - making her the youngest women's soccer player and youngest athlete in any sport to sign such a contract with the company. With the right development, the precocious talent, who plays for Slammers FC HB Koge and is a member of the U.S. under-15 team, could be a big star of the future.

    WHAT NEXT?

After Friday night's final against Racing, Gotham face San Diego Wave in the NWSL Challenge Cup final on March 16 before getting their league season underway eight days later away to Portland Thorns. If her trial is successful, Whitman could be featuring for Juan Carlos Amoros' first-team in the not so distant future.
